One cannot deny Switzerland has not the most interesting metal scene in Europe. Really few acts coming from the land of Guillaume Tell succed in imposing their own mark on the european scene. Yet, acts such as SAMAEL, MESSIAH or to lesser extent IPSUM or MIRIDIAN belongs to the best acts of the whole european scene.
SLAINE deliver an original and entertaining traditional death metal. To be honest, I only write traditional death metal con "NON" doesn't really fit into something else... and even if I get the feeling that SLAINE doesn't create a new kind of music, I also feel unable to quote another act as reference. There are lotsa influences (references) miced in here (CYINC, DEATH...perhaps) but absolutely nothing prominent enough to describe SLAINE special blend of death metal.
The tempo regulary varies from cool passages to mor accelerated ones. The music is eventually heavily guitar driven but estonishingly, the catchiness doesn't simply come from the guitar departments... access and impact rather come from the way songs are built. I have some difficulties to describe SLAINE's music... but I'm totally convinced "Non" is one of the best demo received since the beginning of this year. Highly recommended. No price. -g-
